Review: Lusty Beg Island

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to stay at Lusty Beg Island this week, and it was AMAZING!  The resort is set in the heart of the Fermanagh Lakelands and is a 75 acre exclusive paradise.

We were transported across to the Island by a short 5 minute ferry, and welcomed and greeted by staff as we stepped off.  I have to say, the staff were absolutely lovely.  Everyone greets you with a smile and they are so welcoming and accommodating.

Also, I was a very lucky girl because when I arrived in my room there was a lovely little goodie bag with some VOYA Beauty Products too!

Here’s what I discovered about Lusty Beg Island on my short getaway…

I love food, so of course it’s going to be the first thing that I talk about!  The meals were absolutely gorgeous, there was not one thing I could fault with any dish put in front of me.

I’m going to start with dinner, as it was by far my favourite meal.  On the first night we went to The Thatch (a beautiful little thatch roofed bar, which overlooks the lake) for canapés and drinks.  The Smoked Salmon on Brown Bread was to die for, I’ve never had any like it before.  It tasted so fresh and it broke apart so easily with each bite – perfection!

Then we went on to Beckett’s restaurant for dinner and this is where the magic happened!

To start, there was Confit Duck…

Followed by soup…

For the main, we had the most perfectly cooked fillet steak, served with mashed potato, asparagus and creamy pepper sauce.

Dessert was a trio of Tiramisu, Cheesecake and Crème Brûlée…very unlike me to have dessert, but I could NOT resist!

The spread for breakfast was so enticing.  I opted for the hot breakfast but the pastries, fresh fruit and MYO granola were so tempting!

Lunch on the first day was soup and sandwiches just after we arrived on the Island.  It was just what we needed, in beside the fire and safe from the rain!

My lunch on the second day was from the bar menu, the Garlic Ciabatta Bread – topped with crispy bacon and mature cheddar cheese, while Noel had the Seafood Chowder.  Both were delicious, very reasonably priced and nothing like what you would normally see on a “bar food” menu!

The Island Spa is the ultimate luxury retreat.  They use VOYA products – an Irish organic beauty company that use seaweed in all of their products – a natural miracle beauty product!  The VOYA range is absolutely gorgeous and because it is organic, is suitable for even the most sensitive skin types.

You can arrive at the spa up to 2 hours before your treatment to unwind in the relaxation room.  I went into the relaxation room after my treatment and there was serious risk of me falling asleep in there for the rest of the afternoon! There’s also a sauna and steam room on site.

I had a VOYA facial done by Maria, and it was unbelievable.  I’d never gone for a facial where I was wearing makeup when I arrived, but even the way she removed that was just magical – haha!

The products were so lovely, and as I mentioned I have some to try out at home so I’ll be reviewing those soon!

I didn’t have my son with me, but everywhere I go I seem to always suss out how family friendly it is.  I was delighted with what I saw.

When we arrived, there was a couple with a baby in the bar/lounge area – which is something I like to see.  The couple were actually guests at the resort and later on, I saw another baby too.  So, the accommodation caters for babies too!

There were also stacks of high-chairs available in the lounge and restaurant areas.  There’s a little playground and a games room too.

Lusty Beg Island is a completely exclusive and an utterly unique wedding venue. There was actually a wedding happening while I was there, so I took a few sneaky photos!

The scenery is beautiful, and there’s so many picture perfect spots too, including the veranda overlooking the water.

The Island Spa, Nail Bar and Hair Studio can cater for all your pre-wedding needs.  Some of the wedding packages also include hair and makeup for the bride and her two bridesmaids and complimentary bride and groom spa treatments the day after their wedding!

Lusty Beg also offer on-site civil wedding services inside the Willow Room or on the lake-side veranda.

There is SO much to do on Lusty Beg Island.  Noel was really looking forward to the Clay Pidgeon Shooting, he had a great time and he did so well!

There’s loads more activities to do too, including Off Road Driving, Archery, Canoeing, Power Boating and there’s a Nature Trail around Lusty Beg Island too (which I also walked a little bit!)

The scenery is gorgeous…

The surroundings are absolutely stunning, and what’s wonderful is that none of it is ruined by a ‘hotel’.  As I mentioned, the Island is more of a resort.  There’s a few different types of accommodation available on Lusty Beg.  If you are the type that likes hotel rooms and a cooked breakfast in the morning (like me) there are rooms available for the hotel experience (Courtyard B&B), which is where I stayed. (You can see inside my room on YouTube here)

There’s also the Lakeside Studio Cabins for a more ‘homey’ B&B experience.  There is no hob or oven, but there is a microwave and toaster and kitchenette.

Another GORGEOUS option I spotted are the self catering 4* Inish Lodges, I mean just look how beautiful….

“Overlooking the lake in a secluded position amongst Lusty Beg’s mature woodland, our Inish Lodges suit those who don’t like to leave their home comforts behind. Each lodge consists of a living and dining area, fully fitted kitchen, verandah, master bedroom with balcony, two twin bedrooms, bathroom with bath upstairs and downstairs shower/ wet room. The lodges sleep up to six people. A private 6 seater hot tub is available on request on your private veranda.  For your convenience, each lodge is fitted with a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, oven, microwave, LED TV, DVD player, wood burning stove, fire pack, bedding and towels, toiletries and cleaning materials.”

All in all, I had a FANTASTIC experience at Lusty Beg Island, I really enjoyed my time.  There was so much to do and so much fun to be had, I wish I could live there – haha!  I came home wrecked because I was trying to pack everything into two days!  The staff are so wonderful, the Cadden family (who own it) are the most lovely people you’ll ever meet and they have done a fantastic job.  Should you choose this as a venue for a wedding or another celebration, your guests will know IMMEDIATELY after setting foot on the Island, that you have chosen the perfect place!

Thank you so much to the Cadden family for having me, I will never forget my wonderful time with you – it was like entering a whole different world!
